I just want to give everyone an update about the Landshare & Fantastic Farm and Garden Calculator website. We have moved the site to a new web host due to too much downtime with our old web host. The site now seems stable. However, we have noticed some minor glitches which we are looking into.

Main website:

Contact form hanging, not sending message. RESOLVED

Grow Your Own CSA Co-op:

• The sign page is showing an error. RESOLVED
• Error messages at top of website after  joining through the Grow Your Own CSA  RESOLVED

Fantastic Farm & Garden Calculator users:

• Slow page load when opening or saving a calculator, only in Firefox browser.  Pages load fine in Safari or Chrome.  (this is possibly resolved as we have not seen recent issues.)
• Backslash before apostrophes (i.e.: Landshare\’s) when adding notes on a calculator page.  (we are looking into this.)

If you notice any other issues, don’t hesitate to contact us.

We’ve had some FFGC users who are on Windows mention having small issues when using Internet Explorer. Unfortunately the Internet Explorer browser is still not 100% up-to-date with current web standards, and sometimes will not display pages correctly. We highly recommend using Firefox, Google Chrome, or Safari as your browser. Each of these browsers are available for both Windows and Mac, and fully compatible with this site and the Fantastic Farm & Garden Calculator.

We have noticed that some may have lost their original password for logging in to their calculator account. If you are having trouble logging in, you may need to reset your password by clicking “Reset Password” on the login page.

We are also noticing that sometimes users get a “Page Not Found” message when they click the link to go to the login page. If this occurs for you, try clicking the back button on your browser, then click the login link again and it should take you to the actual login page.

We are sorry for any inconvenience and hope to have this issue resolved soon.

With the seed weights, weight conversions are based on an average across varieties so when it comes to ordering specific varieties there could be significant divergence in seed weight from what is listed here.  When you have doubts, go with the seed counts! Also, we’ve misplaced the Leek seed counts!  Sorry!  For the amount of Leek seed use the “Total # of plants sown” in the Cold Weather Crop Row Planting Info section.

We are currently reassessing the seed weights for several of the crops listed in the Fantastic Farm and Garden Calculator. In the meantime, it is best to order based on seed count.

The instructions have been modified regarding Cold Weather Crop Inputs. Under the number of weeks of harvest in the early part of the season, you cannot input 0. Unfortunately, due to a constraint of the software we are using you also cannot input “10”. You can have 9 weeks of harvest or 11 weeks of harvest but not 10 in the early part of the season. We do apologize for this “bug” but at this point we cannot correct it, though we continue to try. This should only effect those users who live in regions with very long growing seasons.

The template use instructions for the Fantastic Farm & Garden Calculator have been update. Here are the details:

Changes occur on page 10 of the PDF, and include:

“Use the filled in Planting Overview, and the filled in Crop Rotation template to fill in the Planting and Harvest Guides.”

Has been changed to:

“Use the filled in Planting Overview and the calculator to fill in the Planting and Harvest Guides.”

also,

“Use Crop Rotation template to determine in the amount of row feet planted, and
the Planting and Harvest Dates info section of Calc to shade in maturation time and harvest length. The following demonstrates an early season succession and a late season succession of beets.”

has been changed to:

“Use the Cold Weather Crop Planting Info section of the calculator, the column headed “Row Feet /week” to determine the amount of row feet planted for each succession. And use the Planting and Harvest Dates info section of Calc to determine the amount of row feet planted,to shade in maturation time and harvest length. The following demonstrates an early season succession and a late season succession of beets.”

Update Alert 12/30/2009. The “Row Template – 5ft increment” and “Row Template – 50ft increment” have been renamed to “Planting and Harvest Guide – 5ft increment” and Planting and Harvest Guide – 50ft increment.” The Instructions have been updated to reflect this change.
